Milano is a fourth generation, family-owned and operated company. In 1920, Harry Shapiro founded the company under the name of Shapiro Brothers. Leon, Harry's son, led the company from 1946-1967. In 1967, Gino Federici, Leon's son-in-law, relocated the company from Festus, Missouri, to Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Three of Gino's children, Mary, Mia and Michael, assumed ownership and management responsibilities in 2006 and renamed the company Milano Metals and Recycling, in honor of the family's Italian heritage.
